Mission Statement:
-Healing Hands creates a safe, gentle and relaxed environment where people who wish to share in healing and positive energy exchange can come together for the express purpose of connecting that energy through touch.
Today's repressive environment tends to discourage close human contact, creating a deeply felt need for gentle and nurturing human touch. Unfortunately, touch has been either sexualized or avoided altogether as though something so natural and beautiful is taboo. This has resulted in an imbalance that isolates and alienates us from one another. Many people from all walks of life are hungry for more human contact. Healing Hands wishes to help meet the need for more human contact by facilitating events and workshops where rejuvenating human touch is recognized and given the place of honor and importance that it deserves.
What is a Massage Party: A massage party is an well-organized and respectful gathering of kind folk who are open to giving and receiving massage in a sacred and focused context. It is a clothes-on, non-sexual event where people can enjoy relaxed conversation, chill down-tempo music, share raw organic food and juices and reach out to connect with one another through the amazing power of touch. It all distills down to making each other feel positively wonderful!
How does a Massage Party work?: First, we arrive on time, leaving the cares of the world behind, clean and well groomed and wearing loose and comfortable clothing. We introduce and greet one another and put on name tags. Then the group is led through a series of stretches and easy yoga poses to help relax and unwind. We all sit down in a circle to declare our intentions for this event- it might be something like, " Hi everyone, my name is David. I am here to be a part of this beautiful event and share good energy and safe space with all of you who are present here. I wish to contribute my energy for the purpose of healing and connection- Thank you! " This would also be a good time to share your massage preferences- how you like to give massage and how you like to receive massage.
Although this is a free-form event for the most part- there are three very important rules.
1) You must have the consent of the person you are touching. (I know this is obvious, but absolutely essential)
2)Once you have gained their consent, ask how that person likes to be massaged. Strong and deep, gentle and light- maybe a little of both? Before you actually begin a massage, allow your hands to remain still and unmoving. Just sit for a moment with the person you are touching. Close your eyes and feel each other's space. Relax and breathe together, allowing a calm connection to emerge before moving on to massage.
3) This event is based upon the precept- "It is more of a blessing to give than to receive". Reciprocation is the name of the game here- plan on returning some good energy to those who share their good energy with you.
In addition to this, feel free to bring a favorite pillow, blanket or yoga mat. There will be some massage tables available. These types of massage are suggested: Scalp massage, hand massage, foot massage, back massage, face massage, spinal massage, reiki, etc...
The Practical Matter of Initiating Touch:
There are 3 suggested ways that address the matter of initiating touch/massage.
1) There will a table set up, with a name-tagged container representing each person present at the event, scrap paper and pencils. After we stretch out, do some yoga and declare our intentions together, you will be encouraged to drop your name into those containers belonging to the persons you wish to gift a massage to/receive a massage from. That person will be able to check their container throughout the event to decide who they wish to respond to. Again, THEY must initiate contact because THEY have chosen to respond to YOUR request. It will be assumed that it is then ok for that person to directly approach you. You can know it's safe to approach anyone who has dropped their name into your cup- essentially, they are pre-approved to approach : )! This creates a safe way to approach others with minimal risk of embarrassment.
2) Anybody is free at any time to set up a "massage station". The station is open to do business with ANY "shoppers" for massage. For instance, you can announce that you are setting up a hand-massage station. People who are interested in taking you up on a hand massage may then approach you for a hand massage knowing that you have already pre-approved their request. Keep in mind, by graciously setting up a station, you have willingly made your gift available to anyone who responds.
3) The third way to initiate touch is by direct request. Keep in mind, this allows for the possibility of a turn-down. Nevertheless, if you don't mind the risk of being told "no thanks", feel free to directly ask someone if they would care to recieve a massage. If you are approached by somebody in this way and if for ANY reason you care not to massage/be massaged by them at that moment, you may politely say something like, " I'm good, but thanks- I really appreciate the offer (smile)"- and that's that!
So with these basic guidelines in mind, we can move forward into what will certainly be a fun, lively, enjoyable feel-good time with one another. We can come away from this party having more deeply connected with others, feeling good about ourselves, rejuvenated and re-energized- inspired to spread that healing good love vibration all around our own respective life spaces. Let the healing begin!
